Factory Floor
A task app for a print factory. Staff use it on shared tablets, it pulls the roster from Deputy, and it keeps working when the Wi-Fi drops.

The problem
Vivid Ads is a print and signage manufacturer in Australia with three departments: Printing & Finishing, Dispatch and Sewing. Every day there’s a long list of recurring jobs, like calibrating machines, checking ink, doing stocktakes and shutting everything down at the end of the day.
Managers couldn’t easily see what was done, who did it, and what was falling behind. Staff schedules already lived in Deputy, so the new app had to work with Deputy instead of adding a second place to manage people.
What I built
There are two parts: a kiosk app staff use on the factory floor, and a manager panel behind it. A set of background jobs connects both to Deputy.
For floor staff
- Staff tap their name and see today's tasks, both their own and the open ones for their department
- They mark a task done with a tick, a short answer, a number (stocktakes have min/max checks) or a photo
- Points, streaks and a weekly leaderboard
- It works offline. Finished tasks are saved on the tablet and sync once the connection is back.
- Big buttons, because people use it with gloves on and under bright lights
For managers
- Add, edit, pause or bulk-import tasks, including schedules like "first Monday of the month" that skip public holidays
- See overdue tasks, escalations, scores and history
- Approve task requests from staff, manage manager accounts and check the activity log
- A weekly summary every Monday morning before the shift starts
- Video tutorials and step-by-step tours inside the app
Behind the scenes
- Every night it pulls staff from Deputy and works out each person's department from their roster
- Every morning it creates that day's tasks from their schedules
- During the day it sends push notifications for new tasks, reminders and escalations
- After 7 days it deletes the check-in photos staff take at the kiosk
Results
3 weeks
to the first working version, full V1 in 9
43
features across the kiosk, the manager panel and the background jobs
20+
staff on 3 shared tablets across 3 departments
Rosters stay in Deputy, so nobody enters the same data twice. Management signed off on V1, and I handed it over to their on-site team with full documentation.
